ACGME 1205100720
The Family Medicine residency offers a unique opportunity to train in strong clinic settings both on the hospital campus and in private practices. Our faculty maintains a focus on Osteopathic Medical Manipulation with hands-on sessions for all interns and residents.
LewisGale Hospital Montgomery
Located in beautiful Southwest Virginia, the Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year residency accredited by the ACGME. The program has four core faculty members, three of whom graduated from this program, who are engaged in teaching, mentoring, and encouraging residents to be the best possible physicians. The program is currently working toward Osteopathic Recognition.
The second and third year residents have autonomy in creating their own schedule of rotations. Each resident receives an iPhone and a Laptop computer upon joining the program. In addition, each resident is provided with the Textbook of Family Medicine by Rakel as well as the AAFP Family Medicine Board Review with Self Study online feature. The program provides membership to the AAFP. HCA Corporation pays for the Rosh Review for Board prep.
The program is associated with the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine where residents have the opportunity to rotate in Sports Medicine and ONMM3. Upper level residents are given the opportunity to mentor/teach VCOM’s 3rd and 4th year medical students. The program also auditions medical students from around the country who would be interested in filling one of the six available slots annually.
For relaxation, the residents participate in wellness events throughout the academic year – one of which is a retreat held in the Fall. The residents also enjoy many activities with each other outside of work including hiking, camping out, paint ball at the local bowling alley, tubing on the New River, cookouts at each other’s houses, holiday parties, and many more activities. They celebrate each other’s successes and work to constantly improve an already outstanding program.
It is recommended that applicants apply for an audition rotation through Clinician Nexus. Audition rotations are typically completed between May and mid-January of the following year.
