Internal Medicine

The internal medicine residency offers comprehensive core clinical training in internal medicine and its specialties. Graduates from our program have entered many fellowships including interventional cardiology, cardiology, pulmonology/critical care, nephrology, endocrinology, geriatrics, palliative care, and neuromuscular medicine. 

Admissions Requirements:

  • Passed all board exams (COMLEX or USMLE) on first attempt.

  • Graduated medical school within two years.

  • US Citizen or permanent resident. No visa sponsorship.

Highlights of the program:

  • Curriculum provides solid fundamentals of IM and meets requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

  • Inpatient and ambulatory program is flexible in design, allowing for individual resident needs to be considered within required services

  • Committment to patient care that is appropriate, cost-effective, and compassionate

  • High-yield training experiences allow development in clinical knowledge and technical skills

  • Psychological and behavioral science training

  • A minimum of one block of endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, infectious diseases, pulmonary medicine, nephrology, rheumatology, neurology, and cardiology.

 

The continuity of care clinic experience is provided at LewisGale Physicians - Hickok Street. Residents provide care to diverse patients and schedules are adjusted to provide more continuity of care as time progresses.
