ABOUT US

Graduate Medical Education is responsible for all resident education sponsored by this institution, and for the appropriate training and experience of interns, residents, and students who are assigned here through an affiliation agreement with another institution. LGHM includes the hospital, outpatient surgery centers, diagnostic centers, and hospital-sponsored practices.

Academic Mission Statement

To recruit, educate, and train physicians to be competent to practice in their chosen medical specialty and to serve in Southwest Virginia and other rural or underserved populations.

Training Physicians for Tomorrow

When graduates join HCA, they are mentored by a dynamic network of physicians who work in a collaborative culture, always focused on providing our patients the high-quality, compassionate care they deserve.

Our medical training provides:

  • state-of-the-art technology,

  • experienced clinical faculty,

  • interventional cardiology and radiology,

  • diverse orthopaedic procedures,

  • a daily educational lecture, and

  • a hospitalist group that rounds on a variety of patients.

Residents and interns are supported by a full range of clinical services, including nursing, phlebotomy, radiology technicians, case management, social work, allied health professionals, nutritionists, and pastoral care.

Patients are drawn from suburban and rural areas, so residents and interns are provided with experience in managing and caring for a wide variety of medical problems, ages, and demographic / social backgrounds.

A little about the community in which we live and train.  Please take a few moments to see what our area has to offer outside of the educational and work environment!
