ACGME Requirements

Emergency Medicine:

8+ weeks PGY-1 > 4 weeks

 

Internal Medicine:

24+ weeks PGY-1 General IM Inpatient 8+ weeks
Critical Care 4 weeks
*Emphasis placed on subspecialties

 

Pediatrics:

16+ weeks

PGY-1  4+ weeks
*Requires neonatal medicine plus ambulatory/hospitalized patients

 

Surgery:

20+ weeks, PGY-1 General Surgery 4+ weeks
*Emphasis placed on ambulatory management of surgical problems in subspecialties

 

Electives:

20+ weeks (maximum 28 weeks)
PGY-1  4+ weeks
PGY-2  8+ weeks
PGY-3  8+ weeks

 

Community Medicine:

To provide the resident through didactics and clinical experiences, with educational experiences to enhance knowledge/skills in disease prevention, health promotion, immunizations, healthy lifestyle, community programs

 

Geriactrics:

Structured curriculum to train resident in care of geriatric patients. May occur at continuity care site, hospital, long-term care facility, patient’s home, geriatric assessment unit, etc.

 

Sports Medicine:

Clinical and didactic experiences in pre-participation assessment, injury prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation related to athletic and recreational activities

 

Diagnostic Imaging:
To provide resident, through didactic and clinical experiences, with an educational experience that will expand his/her knowledge and skills in the utilization and interpretation of appropriate imaging techniques

 

Behavioral Medicine:
These elements shall be acquired in all disciplines. The continuity of care clinic site shall serve as the primary location for training in this area.


Practice Management:
20+ hours of instruction shall be provided in
basic economic principles of medicine, volume of patients seen and revenue generated per patient visit, gross charges, contractual adjustments, balance billing, overhead costs and prorated economic data, personal and practice financial management, debt consolidation, student loan repayment, retirement planning, financial planning
